5 minutes with Lorrie Thomas about her first vision board

Since we've been close friends for such a long time and have shared some of our most personal highs and lows with each other...it was amazing to see all your dreams and goals out there and visible! It also meant a lot to me to a see the two of us on there! :)

So tell us....

Is this your first vision board? What inspired you to create it?
This was my first vision board. I always kept my visions in my head, but I have learned over the years the mind is for thinking, not storing. I went to a gal pal's house, we had a glass of wine, and we went for it. I was advised by a brilliant coach, Marilyn O'Malley, to just pull photos and words and not think too hard about them, just to let the creativity flow, and I did and it was a super-healthy process!

Where did you hang your vision board and do you think it has changed your focus?

My vision board is in my closet, on a shelf where I see it every day (I am a fashion junkie, the closet is a sacred space for me!)  I find myself seeing different photos and words every time I look at it.  It is a nice "north star" helping guide my intentions and remind me of my passions.

Any tips or thoughts for women who haven’t been bold enough to create one yet, like me?
I credit one of my best friends, Ana Maria Herrera for this tip:  "Done is better than perfect"  I am a diseased perfectionist personally and professionally and because I was not a vision board expert, I was reluctant to do it for fear I might do it wrong!  As soon as I got over the fact that I had to have this perfect vision board and just got into the process, I let go and loved the journey.  Also, I finally realized this year that I DESERVED the time to actually do it!

Here's a very useful article on how-to create a vision board.

I love it! I am on my 3rd vision board and though each one is still relevant and inspirational, they evolve and change, as do my goals and dreams. I suggest creating a new vision board at least once a year...every 6 months is probably better.

Thanks Lisa for sharing this! I agree with you about creating a new one often. I just returned from the eWomen's Network Conference in Dallas and def need a new vision board after this! I think it's hard for people to put out there what they want - they're unclear. I find the more I invest in learning, networking and surrounding myself with trailblazers - my vision becomes clearer. Sometimes you need others to take your dreams and magnify them 10x for you :) Hugs, misty
