Creative inspiration: knit graffiti or yarn bombing by Magda Sayeg

"Laundry will always be there, but the project in Rome won't be," Magda Sayeg

I read an article in the Austin Statesman about Magda's yarn bombing and found her story inspirational. I absolutely loved her quote about laundry always being there....it's one to hang up ladies!

In the article they share Magda Sayeg, mother of three is the queen of knit graffiti, a movement she is widely credited with having started five years ago. Knit graffiti, or yarn bombing, is the crafters equivalent of a person grabbing a can of spray paint to tag a building.

She inspires with her knit graffiti and personal story of pursuing her dreams against the odds. Per the article, this is a second act for Sayeg. Years after she traveled abroad, Sayeg became a single parent at age 20. During those years, she was on welfare and later was married and divorced. In 1999, she remarried and the rest is for us to see. She started out tagging posts and railings in Houston. Sayeg said she was motivated to react to the urban vibe and concrete juggle of Houston. She wanted to give it some softening and humanity. She now calls Austin home and recently yarn bombed downtown!

Thankfully, it looks like Magda Sayeg is just getting started! To stay inspired by her yarn bombings, visit her blog at KnittaPlease or on twitter.
