The secret to happiness and success

Pssst. I have free advice for you. It's very powerful, simple and get this, you already know it. The secret to happiness and success is...

So I get all FIRED UP when I attend women events and conferences. I just returned from the Pennsylvania Women's Conference, a day-long event featuring seminars, workshops and speakers geared toward empowering women. The common message across all the sessions was only YOU can truly bring happiness and success into your life. You have to be willing to reinvent yourself, define what happiness and success means to you and then the tricky part, actually take the steps to make it happen for you.

Here's a few of my favorite moments from the conference:

Watching an electrifying and moving speech from Judge Glenda Hatchett, known for heading up one of the largest juvenile court systems in the country. This video shares a part of her speech and story of a 8 year old boy who came into her court during her first week as a judge. She got a standing ovation and had these things to say to her sisters:

"You need to check in with your heart and soul daily."

"There is nothing stronger than purpose and passion coming together."

"We stand on the shoulders of our mighty generations. We need to be grateful for them."

"Baby run on with your dreams!" Something she told all 4000 women to do and what her grandma once told her at a time she had a future of opportunities and her grandmother, none.

Another favorite was with Tory Johnson, CEO of Women For Hire. If you need help and resources for finding a job, negotiating advice  - she is your woman! Here's what she had to say:

"If something is not working, like landing a job or interview, it's not about trying harder but trying something different."

"Getting interviews and being hired takes the right amount of patience and hustle."

"Identify the moments you were fired up about what you were doing. You need to figure out how to bring more of those moments into your life!"

I can't forget Suze Orman. WOW! She is a pistol on stage and a hoot.

"Ladies, we are too nice and considerate. We have to rock the boat. We make sacrifices, putting others before ourselves. To be financially secure, we need to stop doing that. One reason ladies are still earning less than men is that we do it to ourselves."

"We have to recognize how truly powerful we are today and embrace it. We should stand strong in saying, 'Yes, I want to be a powerful woman. Yes, I want to control my destiny. And yes, I want to take care of myself before I take care of others."

I'm amazed that I get so inspired by hearing things that so many of us already know. But I also know that just because we know something, doesn't mean we're doing it. My wish for you is to get FIRED UP by attending a women's event, gathering, a girls night out ....I know it will inspire you to take action!

Great post Misty! Women should not forget that they, too can be strong and powerful, and must decide to do so.

Life is good :)
