If you haven't picked up the September issue of Oprah's O Magazine - definitely check it out. Even those who aren't fans might like this one. It's the power issue and all about shining the light on what being powerful really means. Of course we're programmed to think someone with power equals money, status, and who they know. I believe we're way overdue for a new definition of powerful and of course, Oprah is helping us do just that.
Oprah on what powerful means....A person with grace, with courage, with the confidence to be her own self and to make things happen.
Suze Orman talks straight-up about her money lessons.
In the power issue, Suze Orman gave some personal finance tips based on what money has taught her about personal power. This article is a must-read for everyone...she gives it to you straight-up. Her inspiring tips are worthy of being ripped out of the magazine and put in a place where we can find them monthly for another kick-in-the-pants.
Here's the highlights but please check out the entire Suze Orman's article: What money has taught me about personal power over at Oprah.
- Power comes from who you are, not what you have.
- Money has no power of its own.
- Self-worth builds net worth.
- Do what's right, not what's easy.
- Ignorance is not bliss where money is concerned.
- How you respect your possessions says a lot about how you respect yourself.
Here's to being powerful!

Excellent article! Even though I find Suze Orman slightly overbearing and obnoxious at times, I do have some of her books and she has some valid points.
Love your blog, by the way and I look forward to your newsletter. Keep up the great work, Misty!
This is a great site that you have here! I have a blog myself that inspires people. I was wondering if we could do a link exchange. It's a win/win for both of us. We have to stick together. Let me know. Jason
Thanks Ceil! This post definitely created a few comments on the IL FB page! I am not surprised. As you said, one definitely has to give Suze some credit and respect for her valid points even though she doesn't appeal to all. I love connecting with you here and on the IL FB page! Hugs, Misty
I think Suze Orman is genius! Her article in Oprah's magazine is nothing but inspiring for all of us. Even if you have absolutely NO money issues, her comments about finding power within have lasting value for one's life. She touched on the "heart", and the internal value of the heart, and that no one can ever take that away from you. Therefore, why shouldn't we be making decisions that affect our hearts, respect our hearts, and decisions that come from our hearts? People run around trying to figure out their purpose here on earth, many thinking that it has to do with material possessions and money. Suze hit the issue right on. Everything in life is about our hearts and where are hearts are in every decision we make. For example, if you make a decision to have a child with wrong motives from your heart, then most likely that child will NOT be brought up with good parenting influence. If we donate to charity with a wrong heart, and make that donation to look good in the public eye, then the donation is in vain to your life. The donation itself is not invain as the money will be used for good purposes, but the impact of the donation on your heart will do nothing. You don't get to share in the wonder and delight of how that money is helping others. Jesus came to show us that God wants our "hearts", and not how wonderful we think we are to the public. Again, the heart is the very core issue of our lives. It makes us who we are deep within ourselves. Jesus came to save our "hearts" from the destruction that life will have upon it. If you want to be powerful in life and leave a deep impact on others lives, than forget the public eye, look into your heart. Find out who you really are. Discover your heart, and then make actions that come from within your being. This is where we will become truely "rich". I believe that this is what Suze was trying to tell us in Oprah's September issue; we don't need money to be rich. Take care of your heart. Cultivate it with good stuff, not money.
thanks for your nice tips!! Iis it possible to maintain a healthy lifestyle in the midst of all this financial chaos? Of course it is and it’s easier than you think. Being healthy doesn’t have to cost a fortune. In light of this economic downturn, I’ve produced a list of my favorite ways to stay healthy and still have money in the bank.
