My interview about balancing it all and achieving success with kids

I think this says it all!

I recently was the Modern Mom Spotlight in Corrine Bucher's newsletter, Embracing Motherhood. Corrine is very passionate about helping mothers balance career, family and their personal creative pursuits. I love what Corrine says, "By looking deep inside and being true to myself, I have found a way to balance my sources of joy and my quest to make a positive impact in the lives of others." Click here to learn more about Corrine and to sign-up for her inspiring and practical newsletter, "Embracing Motherhood." When's she's not working, you will find her surfing, cycling and swimming in Half Moon Bay, California :)

Corrine interviewing me...

What is your top tip for balancing it all?
For me, there are days when I am on fire and doing great at balancing it all. Then next week, it can be a completely different story where my world is upside down. I am getting good at sensing when I need to drop everything and go take care of myself. I stopped looking for perfection and do a very good job of not over committing myself. I believe women, because we like to please and be superwoman, tend to create most of the chaos in our life. We need to know we're still phenomenal women and mothers even if we say “no” to volunteering, attending every kids birthday party and preparing full course meals every night (this doesn't mean you can't gather around the dinner table with pancakes or sandwiches). We need to give ourselves a break...we deserve it!

How has being a mom impacted your success?

My two daughters', who are almost 5 and 1, are absolutely my inspirations. I feel a responsibility do everything in my power to bring them up with confidence and believe that anything is possible. As they grow-up I will involve them in my work so I am excited about that. Although, there are definite sacrifices women have to make when having kids and also choosing to climb the corporate ladder or be an entrepreneur. I have come to terms that my business will grow much slower than I like because I can’t travel or network as much as I should. My girls are my priority and the flexibility is the one thing I love as an entrepreneur so it’s a balancing act. I know in my heart that everything will work out just fine and to keep following my intuition.

What is your best mommy moment?
Whenever my husband and I are hanging out with our two girls having fun and laughing. Nothing beats those moments where you sit back in amazement thinking this is my beautiful family!

Why I launched My Inspiration Lounge?

I knew other women, like me, were seeking a greater purpose in life – to have a bigger impact on the world, learn more, live more – but crunched for time. I thought about what's important to women right now and how I could make it easier for women to be inspired and informed. I scoured the web for useful and inspiring websites in categories like Become An Eco-Shopper, Change The World, The Book Lounge and Cook and Entertain to name a few. Launched in late 2008, the site has now become the go-to source for women of all ages and around the world to find inspiration and the best of the web across areas that matter most to us in life.

Because I didn’t have enough on my plate, (LOL!) I decided to launch InspirationLounge.tv, an inspirational video community to showcase real conversations with real people who have a whole lotta inspiration to share about the important things in life. You will find a combination of inspiring videos from around the web and featured videos where I’ve interviewed real women about life’s big questions. This has been an exciting project for me because I stepped out of my comfort zone to interview women myself and found that I absolutely love to hear what other women have to say about how they would change the world, stay inspired and find balance. My takeaway from interviewing women so far is the ones who thought they had nothing to share, had the best things to share!
