Finding Inspiration and Joy After A Crisis

Some good laughs always help!

Life is wonky. I have heard this word several times in the last week and now my new favorite. I think wonky pretty much describes everyday life. In one day we can experience joy, frustration, laughter, tears, excitement, pure bliss and disappointment. That's pretty wonky if you think about it. But it's life. Our one sweet, precious life.

So how does one rediscover joy after a crisis or difficult period in their life? This was the big question Karla asked me recently. Ordinary people somehow bounce back in extraordinary ways. What's their secret? Well, I am no expert. Although, I do have some thoughts based on my own personal recovery from a very recent crisis that was too big for me to handle. I'm about as strong as they come, but this one threw me into a state of paralysis. I am sure Karla and others would love to hear your secret too!

Dear Karla:

Think of rediscovering joy after a crisis as a culmination of baby steps. First step in the journey is getting back into the routine of everyday life. The simplicity in routine can help you bounce back and bring comfort. From there, the next few steps will make all the difference in how you can truly rediscover joy and your "true self" that was probably lost along the way.

  • Dive into things you're passionate about and do lots of it. This is a great way to boost confidence and fuel the soul, which ultimately leads one to start taking leaps of faith. Leaps of faith and taking chances will bring you joy and a sense of "aliveness".
  • Surround yourself with a positive, supportive network of friends and family. They will lift your spirits and remind you of your greatness!
  • The next step and probably the most challenging, letting yourself grieve. Make peace with whatever has happened and then know that it will all be okay.

Remember, you can survive anything if you stick to what's true to you, your passions and beliefs!

Yes, having a baby in the house that giggles and smiles a lot helps too :) Please do not rush off and have babies!

Hugs and inspiration,

Misty!

What a lovely website you have! I happened upon you -- somehow. But I'm glad I did. Oh.. I wanted t say, too.. I am recovering after a crisis of surgery.. and finding post-op inspiration and joy has been my task. I posted on my blog my story about just going to the grocery store today.. and how much I enjoyed spending more than I would have at a discount store - just for the ambiance.

You have inspired me. I hope you don't mind that my six month old blog will grow up to be more like yours! Inspiring. Beautiful. Informative.

Blessings!

Misty, What wonderful wisdom you're sharing with your readers! I was engaged in exactly this conversation this morning with a new client struggling to get in gear after some difficult life challenges. In this moment I feel that the interplay between doing what you're passionate about AND allowing yourself the time and space to grieve your loss are what will keep an energy flow happening in your body. Frozen emotions concretize within us; those we feel can flow in and out, letting us experience our full humanity. Thanks for speaking to this and encouraging others to move forward in the healthiest way!
