First Stop; We Can Change the World!

First stop; we can change the world for the better.

You don't have to be Melinda and Bill Gates, Oprah or Google to positively change the world; you can do it without anything but a small personal investment. The first step is simple, fulfilling and contagious - be compassionate towards fellow human beings! One site that inspires me in this area is Zenhabits - 25 ways to help a fellow human being today . The blogs author, Leo writes his daily inspirations from Guam, where he lives with his wife and six children. A man with sage advice and a simple, concise style of writing - perfect for us busy ladies!

If you can't be a billionaire - then be a thrillionaire (doesn't this sound cool?)! You are a thrillionaire if you can think of a time you experienced a real thrill when you gave something - a gift of money, time, a kidney, kind words, prayers, idea, stuff. The purpose of Thrillionaire.org is to collect thrillionaire stories and provide inspiration to help others. While "giving" isn't about gratification or recognition, this site is motivational, positive and uplifting. It provides countless examples of acts of kindness and generosity - a commodity rarely reported in other media forums.

It's hard to create change in the world if we don't challenge established ways of thinking and doing. Lori does just that with her site called The Resident . Her video blog provokes thought and motivation to get engaged in truly worthwhile causes. Check out her video on the bottom right hand side. I will rotate in a different one weekly.

For the last two years I've been involved in a local giving circle - Santa Barbara Women's Fund. Seeing the power of collaboration in women getting together with the mission of raising donations and selecting charities has been a wonderful experience. Over the past four years, the women's fund has donated over $1.4 million to local non-profits! Giving circles focus on raising funds without fanfare and galas, making them accessible to everyone. A perfect opportunity for busy women to collaborate, contribute and effect positive change. Check out Giving Forum and get inspired to join or start your own giving circle!

There are so many good causes out there that we don't know about. I would like to see my inspiration lounge help small charitable organizations have a BIG impact. If you feel passionate about one, please share!

Next week we will explore putting our purse power to work by becoming eco-shoppers!
