My pick for best green diapers and where to buy them!

This is a picture of Molly's feet when she was 4-weeks old, her first trip to the beach! She napped the entire time and still does everytime we go there! She is now 4-months old...my how time flies!

While pregnant with Molly, my second daughter (oh my!), I was in the process of creating My Inspiration Lounge and working on the Go Green and Be An Eco-Shopper sections. While doing the research, I made the commitment to buy eco-friendly disposable diapers for Molly. Why you ask?

An estimated 27.4 billion disposable diapers are used each year in the US, resulting in a possible 3.4 million tons of used diapers adding to landfills each year. Your baby will use approx 6,000 diapers before toilet training, and that disposable diapers take 200-500 years to decompose. A serious issue with available solutions if we all do our part to help.

Nature Babycare are the first eco-friendly disposable diapers I tried and so far, they hold up to the test. Ya know, the poop performance test. I read many reviews on other green disposable diapers to make sure I was indeed using the best. On Diapers.com, they rank close to 5 out of 5 stars (from 200 reviewers) in terms of absorbency and have won awards from the most challenging environmental labels. I thought they were 100% biodegradable but after more research found this does not exist for any of the green disposable diapers. They are close to 70% biodegradable compared to regular disposable diapers. The other thing I like about Nature Babycare - it is a parent-run company!

Why I only buy from Diapers.com...

From the moment you place your order, the package typically arrives within 48-hours! How about that for service! Let me tell you, we have been down to the last diaper in our house when that package arrives! Diapers.com also has an entire section dedicated to green or eco-friendly products. They also ship free for all orders higher than $49. Go to Retailmenot.com for the coupon code offering $10 off the first order.

You say, "I can't afford eco-friendly diapers!"

Yes you can!:) Nature Babycare is $0.33/unit vs. $0.22/unit for the diapers that hang around for 500-years. The difference is paying $220 (6000*$0.11) more a year to invest in protecting your little baby's future and your grandchildren's future. Don't you think this is worth a few less dinners out, taking lunch to work, buying less toys and do I dare say...driving past Starbucks? :)

I'm expecting my 2nd child in October and want to make the best decision regarding diapers. I read recently that it doesn't matter if disposable diapers are made of better materials and biodegrade faster because they are not put into compost piles. When thrown in the trash, they are still sent to air tight landfills where they do not decompose much faster than any other garbage ... even though they would in a compost environment. With this in mind ... I'm wondering if organic cloth diapers are the better choice if washed or line dryed at home? There is just so much to consider it's mind boggling.
