Eco-Friendly, Free Wrapping Paper!

I had my Aha! moment the other day when my daughter, Ava, and I were scrambling around the house looking for wrapping paper or at least some tissue paper. Once again, I was unprepared and cursing at myself. Then I thought, "Let's tear fun pictures out of old magazines that are hanging around the house!" We started with Oprah's November issue so the "Aha! moment" is totally appropriate in this case! We both had a blast working on this project together. It was fun to see which pictures resonated with her. It didn't come out perfect but that is ok. As we were walking into the party, someone did ask us where we bought the cool wrapping paper. Ava and I just looked at each other with big, proud smiles.
I know this will now become a new tradition in our house. Maybe it will become a new tradition in yours!

This is a great idea! I did a post about our Christmas - wrapping solution a couple of weeks ago...similar...I'm letting DS create "artwork" on old paper bags and we will wrap with that. I might do a little of this too!! Thanks for the idea!

I'm loving this idea for creative gift wrapping and a chance to recycle my favorite fashion magazines.

WE have been doing this for years, I was a bride of 17 in 1936 and knew first hand that terrible ten years of the first big depression. We used pages from the old mail order catalogues, Sears and also Montgomery Wards. Also, we did not wait for events for need of a package. We just did it when we had read all the pages in whatever magazines we happened to recieve for free from or Church "Free Boxes". We are now returning to these habits. I do a regional column (monthly since 1992 and have scads of money saving material in my head to get out there now.
