Why we should take our daughters to the polls on Election Day

To be honest, I have been so busy in my own world that I didn't even think about taking my oldest daughter down to the polls until I received an email from The White House Project. They reminded me why it is so important our daughters take part in this historic election. She may only be 4-years old but I do know one thing for sure - this is a scary and tough world my girls will have to grow up in. Teaching a girl the power of her voice and her ability to make a difference is critical for building confidence and self-esteem. These days "they are too young" is unacceptable and too late. These are important assets young girls and women need to survive this doggy dog world and not be eaten for lunch!

Why our Daughters? Why the Polls?

We know that children model their own dreams on what adults and society show them to be possible.

The U.S. currently ranks an astounding 71st in the world in women's political representation. Women leaders make up just 16% of the Senate, 23% of state legislatures, and 10% of big city mayors. With so few women to emulate, young girls are going to have a hard time believing that they can make a difference in politics when they grow up.

Unless, of course, their moms and dads, aunts and uncles, grandparents and other grown-ups show them otherwise.

By taking our daughters to the polls, we show them that they are in fact a valuable part of the political process.

Love this! Good reminder about just making our children aware of the process and how important they are in it.
