A top womens resource for investing and personal finance tips: DailyWorth

Subscribe to the free daily personal finance email for women!

DailyWorth is a free daily personal finance email for women. We deliver practical tips, empowering ideas and the occasional kick in the pants.

Helping women take control of their finances and gain financial independence is one mission of mine. I know money is an area where women aren't used to taking charge and in most cases, rely on their partner or husband to manage it. I want to empower women with the best personal finance info on the web so this will change. Why? Because I've heard one too many stories where the women are clueless about how much money is in the bank, where it's invested, how much debt has been accumulated or how much income is flowing into the house. Some women are fine with just spending it and not knowing what's behind the curtain until a major event happens like a bad economy. Or the day when the husband comes home and says he spent all the money and the house is going into foreclosure. My wish is for women to feel more confident and play a equal role in managing the money so there are no surprises.

To help women, I made sure to include a "Get Money Savvy" section on MyInspirationLounge.com. Here you will find the best websites that I've handpicked to help women save money, invest smarter and become financaily free of debt!

One of these top websites is DailyWorth.com, a free daily personal finance email for women - and truly, one of the best I've seen for women!! Amanda Steinberg founded DailyWorth when she hit a breaking point in her life: she was working 60-hours a week and still not making ends meet. She decided to help many women that face the same challenges by creating a daily email that makes personal finance sexier, easy to digest and relevant to what is going on in today's world.

Homemade body scrub, a fun DIY gift idea

There's no doubt that if you give someone homemade sugar body scrub - the kind that smells so good you might wanna eat it - they will love you forever! I have yet to come across a gal who doesn't have a weakness for liking lots of lotions, potions, scrubs, whatever claims to leave you soft and silky!

When I saw this homemade body scrub, I thought this is a cool DIY gift idea for any special occasion where you want to give a small gift with big heart. The bonus - you have fun and get to keep a stash for you!! Plus, homemade body scrub is inexpensive, completely useful, functional, luscious, a love-to-have-it gift that won't be stuffed in a closet or tossed aside!

Here's an easy sugar body scrub recipe, with tried and tested instructions, from Jennifer at the Tree Hugging Family:

The simple ingredients for homemade body scrub that will make you look like a star:

  1. 2 cups sugar – I like a mix of coarse natural brown, and basic white; it makes a good scrub worthy feel. You can use just coarse brown or just plain white though. Do not use soft brown baking sugar.
  2. 1 cup oil or until sugar is saturated: I like apricot or light olive best. Any oil that’s natural and from a nut or fruit will work like almond, avocado or grapeseed. Baby oil (non-scented) will also work. Do not use cooking oil like corn – that will make a funky smell and a too-slick feel.
  3. Vanilla beans: Use whole organic, or in a pinch I’ve used organic vanilla extract (seriously, I was hard up). However, extract will darken your mix – no biggie though.
  4. A few drops of organic lavender essential oil.
  5. A container with a lid.

Other nice mixes Jennifer recommends include:

  • Grapefruit and peppermint
  • Orange, clove, and lemon
  • Tea tree
  • Basil and lemon
  • Cedar and lavender
  • Coffee (I ground a bit of espresso) and grapefruit
  • Almond and orange

Have fun with it and make sure to test it out first! :)

15 ideas for dates, a date with YOU that is!

Taking a stroll through the park.

If you asked women one of the things they cherish most, I think they would answer "my alone time." I couldn't agree more. Even though I'm a very social person - my space and alone time is very important to me. I love how Carolyn (with idea #14) put it, "I like me and that helps!"

So I asked my fans on Facebook for ideas or things to do on a solo date. A solo date is where you have a date with YOU! Ever have one of those?! They are dreamy and cure most problems you might be having. Here's what the ladies had to share...

15 ideas for dates, a date with YOU that is!

  1. Catch a flick. It's cheap and you can eat as much popcorn as you like.
  2. People watch while hanging out at a coffee house or park.
  3. Grab a coffee and browse an independent bookstore.
  4. Grab a book, your ipod and hit the pool!
  5. Crank your favorite tunes while driving and sing like no one is watching you.
  6. Indulge in a manicure and pedicure. Heck, make it a facial and massage! (btw - book a 30-min massage if you're on a budget, so worth it!)
  7. Walk a labyrinth and journal your insights. Taking a camera would be fun too.
  8. For those who live in the North Pole, hit the tanning bed but keep it short.
  9. Get on a bus and go to a different part of town to discover new little shops or cafes.
  10. Take the picnic indoors with your favorite treats, journal, music, paints whatever is your thang!
  11. On a gorgeous day, go wander a flower nursery.
  12. Walk the beach or take a hike - leave the iPod at home.
  13. Catch the latest exhibit at your local art museum.
  14. Just being. Perhaps reading, sitting and really listening to music, not just having it on in the background, Eating cereal for dinner if that's what I want, writing a letter to a friend instead of emailing.
  15. Go have lunch at your favorite restaurant and splurge on a glass of vino!

I dare you to adventure out in the next couple of weeks and try one of them!  I just took care of #5 while driving to the doctors and back! :)

Check out this tag cloud based on my twitter followers

Check out this word cloud generated from the bios of my followers! It appears I have some happy, life-loving, entrepreneurs, authors, speakers and moms following me on Twitter! Love it!

Here's the random story on how I came across TwitterSheep. I was listening to Mariel Hemingway on the Self-Love Studio (you have to sign-up, it rocks) and she mentioned her new website and blog. So of course I have to visit because I'm a web gemologist so my job is to find inspiring websites. Hehe! While browsing Mariel's blog, I find her tag cloud from Twitter Sheep. I went from listening to the candid, inspiring and keepin' it real Mariel Hemingway to creating my twitter tag cloud when I had serious intentions of getting work done! The love/hate r/l we all have with the web! Distracting.
